Vietnam in Hangzhou: A New Opportunity for Tourism and Cultural Exchange Between Vietnam and China
Vietnam continues to strengthen its tourism ties with China through the Vietnam Tourism Promotion Program in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, held on the evening of November 27, 2025 local time. This marks the second tourism promotion event in China by Vietnam this year, highlighting China as one of Vietnam’s most important and rapidly growing tourism markets.
Vietnam-China Tourism: Opportunities and Potential
China is the largest source of international tourists to Vietnam. In 2019, Vietnam welcomed 5.8 million Chinese visitors, topping the list of international markets. Conversely, Vietnam is China’s largest trade partner in ASEAN and ranks fifth globally among individual countries. In 2019, approximately 8 million Vietnamese travelers visited China, showing the significant potential for two-way tourism.
Moreover, the number of Vietnamese students studying in China reached a record nearly 23,000 in 2024, double that of 2019. This reflects the growing interest of Vietnamese people in studying, exploring business opportunities, and experiencing China’s diverse travel destinations.
Favorable Conditions for Bilateral Tourism
Several factors are driving the growth of Vietnam-China tourism:
- Direct flights between major cities.
- Simplified entry and exit procedures for travelers.
- Attractive and diverse destinations, including cultural heritage, historic sites, and natural landscapes.
- Warm and welcoming local people, creating a positive experience for visitors.

Hangzhou – The Ideal Destination for Cultural Exchange
According to Director General Nguyen Trung Khanh, Hangzhou is one of China’s most historic, culturally rich, and dynamic cities. The Vietnam tourism promotion program in Hangzhou provides a valuable opportunity for Vietnamese and Chinese businesses to share information, explore cooperation, and promote two-way tourism development.
A Long-Standing Cultural and Economic Relationship
The friendship between Zhejiang Province and Vietnam has been maintained for centuries. During the Tang and Song dynasties, celadon ceramics, brocades, and fine teas from Zhejiang were transported via maritime Silk Road to the historic ports of Van Don and Hoi An in Vietnam. Conversely, high-quality rice and spices from Vietnam reached Ningbo and Wenzhou in Zhejiang. This centuries-old cultural and economic exchange provides a strong foundation for today’s cooperation.
Program Highlights: Opening New Opportunities
The event concluded with a sense of optimism, opening new opportunities for tourism and cultural cooperation. Activities during the program not only showcased Vietnam’s destinations and unique tourism products to Chinese audiences but also strengthened long-term friendship. This foundation enables businesses from both countries to collaborate, expand markets, and drive sustainable growth in two-way tourism.
