Severe Flooding in Gia Lai and Dak Lak: Tens of Thousands of Homes Submerged

Heavy rain overnight and on the morning of November 19 caused rapid water level rises in the Ba River. Around 8,500 households in eastern Dak Lak are deeply flooded. Many single-story homes have been completely submerged.

Thousands of residents could not evacuate in time. Rising water forced many families to climb onto their rooftops to stay safe.

Emergency Rescue Operations

Army, police, and local militia teams reached high-risk areas to evacuate residents. Rescue teams used boats and canoes to move people to safety, especially children and the elderly.

In Gia Lai, wards such as Quy Nhon Bac and Quy Nhon Dong and communes like Tuy Phuoc, Tuy Phuoc Dong, and Tuy Phuoc Bac are heavily flooded. Authorities report over 8,300 households with nearly 36,000 people isolated by floodwaters.

Many roads are severely damaged, making land transport nearly impossible.

Rising Water Levels Remain a Threat

Tonight, water levels in the Kon River and Ha Thanh River are expected to rise further. Authorities warn that levels may exceed alert level 3, posing additional risk to residents.

Residents Await Rescue

Currently, over 48,000 homes in eastern Gia Lai and Dak Lak remain submerged. Many residents remain stranded on rooftops, waiting for rescue teams and emergency supplies.

Conclusion

The flooding has caused serious damage to homes and livelihoods in Gia Lai and Dak Lak. Rescue operations are ongoing, but the situation remains critical as water levels continue to rise.
