Sa Dec Flower Village | National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Vietnam

Sa Dec Flower Village is known as the Tet flower capital of southern Vietnam. It has been officially recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. The title reflects its historical depth, local knowledge, and strong community connections.

Located in Dong Thap Province, the village plays an important role in the cultural life of the Mekong Delta.

A 300-Year-Old Flower Village by the Tien River

Sa Dec Flower Village was formed nearly 300 years ago. It lies along the banks of the Tien River. Today, the village covers almost 1,000 hectares.

In the early days, local farmers mainly grew roses. Over time, they developed new techniques and shared their experience. As a result, the village now cultivates hundreds of flower and ornamental plant varieties.

Sa Dec supplies flowers to many regions in southern Vietnam. Demand is especially high during the Lunar New Year.

National Intangible Cultural Heritage Recognition

The recognition of Sa Dec Flower Village as a national heritage creates strong motivation for preservation. Traditional farming techniques can now be protected and passed down. Historical values are also preserved for future generations.

The title confirms the village’s importance in the economic and cultural life of the Mekong Delta. It also opens opportunities for sustainable development.

According to Dong Thap provincial leaders, clear plans are in place. These plans focus on heritage protection and value promotion. The guiding principle is preservation linked with tourism development.

Flower Festival Promoting Sa Dec’s Cultural Identity

At the same time, the 2nd Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Plant Festival is being held. The event runs from December 27 to January 4, 2026.

The festival includes flower exhibitions and artistic displays. Cultural performances are also part of the program. These activities help introduce Sa Dec Flower Village to more visitors.

The festival celebrates both natural beauty and human creativity. It also honors generations of flower growers.

Sa Dec Flower Village and Sustainable Tourism

With its heritage status, Sa Dec Flower Village is becoming a key tourism destination. It offers a strong example of heritage-based and community-led tourism.

The village continues to grow while preserving its identity. Today, it stands as a symbol of cultural pride in the Mekong Delta.
