“Return” Exhibition Opens at Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts
On November 21, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts officially opened a special exhibition titled “Return”, showcasing a collection of artworks donated in 2025 by Mr. and Mrs. Le Tat Luyen – Thuy Khue.
The exhibition marks an important milestone for the museum, honoring the generous contribution of a priceless art collection that the couple has preserved for more than 50 years, and expressing deep gratitude for their exceptional cultural dedication.
A Meaningful Event for Vietnamese Cultural Heritage
The launch coincides with two significant anniversaries:
-
80 years since President Ho Chi Minh issued Decree No. 65, emphasizing the essential role of preserving historical monuments.
-
20th Anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day.
In recent years, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts has collected many rare and valuable works, especially through the continuous donations of Mr. and Mrs. Le Tat Luyen – Thuy Khue since 2018. The “Return” exhibition continues this journey by presenting a precious collection of 43 paintings and archival pieces.
These artworks serve not only as outstanding artistic masterpieces, but also as historic witnesses, reflecting an important era in the development of modern Vietnamese fine arts.
An Extraordinary Cultural Contribution
The donation made by Mr. and Mrs. Le Tat Luyen – Thuy Khue is seen as an exceptional cultural gesture, driven by a deep desire to bring Vietnamese artworks created abroad back to the homeland.
The exhibition name, “Return”, carries a profound meaning:
-
A return to memory
-
A return of artistic heritage to the Vietnamese people
-
An opportunity for younger generations to admire early 20th-century Vietnamese painting styles and techniques
Despite living far from Vietnam, the couple has always remained connected to their roots. Many pieces were collected with great effort and persuasion from artists and collectors.

Artistic and Academic Value
The collection highlights a dynamic period of transformation in Vietnamese fine arts, from:
-
Traditional lacquer painting techniques
-
Delicate silk painting
-
Selective influences from Western and Japanese art
This makes the exhibition a valuable resource for:
-
Researchers and art historians
-
Students and young artists
-
The general public
Ho Chi Minh City’s Commitment to Cultural Preservation
As a major cultural, economic, and social center, Ho Chi Minh City places strong importance on preserving and promoting cultural heritage. The “Return” exhibition serves as meaningful proof of that mission.
The Museum of Fine Arts will continue to preserve the donated collection while developing education and research programs to maximize cultural value and public engagement.
