Lo Lo Chai and Then Pa: Two Unique Villages in Lung Cu, Ha Giang
Lo Lo Chai and Then Pa are the two most visited villages among nine hamlets in Lung Cu Commune, Ha Giang. Although they share similar traditional architecture—earthen houses, yin-yang tiled roofs, and stone fences—their atmosphere is remarkably different. Lo Lo Chai is lively and busy, while Then Pa remains calm and peaceful.
Lo Lo Chai sits at the foot of Dragon Mountain and is only about one kilometer from Lung Cu Flag Tower. It is home to the Lo Lo ethnic community and has become a popular tourism destination thanks to planned development and a wide range of services. Traditional rammed-earth houses dominate the village landscape. Accommodation options are plentiful, with room rates from 800,000 to 1,500,000 VND per night. The area is often crowded during weekends and holidays.

Just a short walk away, Then Pa offers a completely different experience. Hidden beneath ancient cypress trees, the village name translates to “large field,” referring to its flat valley terrain. Then Pa is a long-standing settlement of the H’Mong community and consists of only 11 households, all related by blood. This close-knit structure preserves an authentic lifestyle with minimal commercialization.

Accommodation services in Then Pa are limited. Travelers can choose between a homestay with local families or the more private Then Pa Village resort. Prices are more affordable, typically below 500,000 VND per night.
