Intangible Cultural Heritage in Vietnam & Sustainable Tourism

Intangible cultural heritage in Vietnam plays a vital role in preserving national identity and supporting sustainable tourism. From December 19 to 21, the Tourism Information Center under the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will host an exhibition in Hanoi highlighting heritage from ethnic minority communities.

The event will take place at the Cultural and Arts Center, 22 Hang Buom Street, Hoan Kiem District. It will highlight two nationally recognized intangible cultural heritages: Muong Gong Culture and Khmer Five-Tone Music (Ngu Am).

Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage of Ethnic Minority Communities

Intangible cultural heritage plays an important role in preserving cultural identity. This is especially true for ethnic minority and mountainous communities in Vietnam.

The program focuses on the cultural, historical, and spiritual values of Muong gongs and Khmer Five-Tone music. Both art forms are officially listed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Through carefully designed exhibition spaces, visitors can explore the traditions of the Muong and Khmer people. The displays also highlight local landscapes and community life. Together, they show the close connection between culture and place.

Cultural Performances and Community Engagement

In addition to the exhibition, the program features live performances by local artisans and musicians. These performances allow visitors to experience traditional music in an authentic setting.

The event also includes interactive activities and cultural exchanges. These activities help connect heritage bearers with the public.

Experts, researchers, and community representatives will take part in panel discussions and seminars. The discussions focus on heritage preservation and sustainable tourism development.

Visitors can also explore booths showcasing local specialties and handicrafts. Traditional regional cuisine will be available throughout the event.

Linking Cultural Heritage with Sustainable Tourism Development

By linking heritage with tourism, the program creates new opportunities for local communities. At the same time, it helps protect traditional cultural values.

The initiative reflects the tourism sector’s long-term commitment to community-based development. It also promotes Vietnam as a destination rich in cultural diversity and authentic experiences.

Through responsible tourism, Vietnam continues to share its living heritage with domestic and international visitors.
