Vinh Long Celebrates Ok Om Bok Festival 2025 – A Week of Khmer Culture, Art and Heritage
Vinh Long, Vietnam – October 30, 2025. The Vinh Long Provincial People’s Committee has opened the Culture, Sports and Tourism Week at Pham Ngu Lao Park in Tra Vinh Ward. The event celebrates the Ok Om Bok Festival 2025, one of the most important cultural traditions of the Khmer community.
This year’s theme, “Discover and Experience the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ok Om Bok Festival,” invites visitors to explore southern Vietnam’s unique culture. The week runs from October 30 to November 5, 2025, featuring 19 events in culture, art, sports, and tourism.
A Week of Culture and Celebration
Activities are spread across major venues, including the Cultural Center (former Tra Vinh site), Nguyet Hoa Square, Ao Ba Om Heritage Site, and the Khmer Cultural Museum.
Highlights include a Trade Promotion Fair, the Southern Cuisine Space 2025, and the tourism exhibition “Vinh Long – The Land of Convergence: One Route, Three Destinations.” Sports competitions and cultural performances add color and excitement throughout the week.
At the opening, Vice Chairman Nguyen Quynh Thien said that after administrative restructuring, Vinh Long has become a strategic center in southern Vietnam. The province now has great potential for growth in economy, trade, tourism, and international cooperation.

A Land Rich in Heritage
Vinh Long is known for its history, culture, and remarkable people. Many national heroes were born here, including Poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Professor Tran Dai Nghia, Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, Chairman Pham Hung, and Major General Nguyen Thi Dinh.
The province preserves 214 recognized historical and cultural sites. These include two special national relics, 45 national relics, and 167 provincial sites such as:

Preserving Southern Vietnam’s Living Culture
Vinh Long is home to 19 intangible cultural heritages recognized nationwide. These include Don Ca Tai Tu (Southern Folk Music), Hat Boi (Classical Opera), Hat Sac Bua (New Year Singing), and Rô-băm Theatre. Local communities continue to preserve these traditions with pride.
Among them, the Ok Om Bok Festival is one of the most colorful and meaningful celebrations of the Khmer ethnic group in the Mekong Delta.
Ok Om Bok – The Moon Offering Festival
Also known as the Moon Offering Festival, Ok Om Bok is held to thank the moon deity for good harvests and peace. The celebration features lantern releases, boat races, folk games, and traditional music.
It creates a festive, spiritual atmosphere that attracts both locals and tourists. Through this event, visitors can feel the unity and warmth of Khmer culture.
Culture as a Force for Growth
Vice Chairman Thien emphasized that this cultural week shows the province’s commitment to using culture as a driver for sustainable development.
The event helps promote tourism and introduces Khmer culture’s beauty, creativity, and humanity to a wider audience. It also strengthens connections between communities and enhances Vinh Long’s image as a vibrant destination in southern Vietnam.
