Vietnam Prepares for Typhoon Kalmaegi: Safety Measures for Tourists and Coastal Communities

On November 4, 2025, the Vietnamese Government issued an urgent directive to all provinces and ministries to prepare for Typhoon Kalmaegi, which is expected to become the 13th storm of the year.
The storm is forecast to move into the East Sea on November 5, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to central and southern coastal regions.

Powerful Storm Heading Toward Central Vietnam

According to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, Kalmaegi currently has winds reaching level 13, gusting to level 16.
After entering the East Sea, it may strengthen further, with wind speeds up to level 14 or 17 in gusts.
The storm is expected to impact coastal areas from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa, and heavy rain is likely to extend from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa.

Safety Comes First

The government has ordered all agencies and local authorities to act early and decisively.
The main goals are to protect human lives, secure property, and reduce storm damage.

Fishing vessels are being urged to return to shore or move to safe zones.
Local authorities are checking reservoirs, hydroelectric dams, and irrigation systems to prevent flooding and structural damage.
Emergency forces are also preparing search and rescue equipment in case of severe weather or landslides.

Protecting Tourists and Travel Activities

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has directed all provinces to ensure the safety of visitors, especially in coastal and island destinations.
Tour operators and hotels are advised to suspend outdoor and marine activities until the storm passes.
Local tourism offices are also working to update travelers and provide safe evacuation plans if needed.

Ensuring Supplies and Communication

Authorities have instructed relevant sectors to secure food, water, and essential goods.
Retailers are being monitored to prevent price increases during the storm.
Telecommunication providers have been asked to maintain stable communication networks, ensuring that updates reach all communities quickly.

Public Awareness and Updates

National media and local broadcasters are increasing coverage to keep citizens informed of the storm’s path and government safety instructions.
People in at-risk areas are advised to stay indoors, avoid coastal zones, and follow official guidance from local authorities.

Conclusion

Typhoon Kalmaegi is expected to be one of the strongest storms of 2025, and Vietnam is mobilizing all resources to ensure public safety.
With early preparation and clear communication, the country aims to minimize damage and protect both residents and visitors along the coast.
