Red River Festival 2025 in Lao Cai: Celebrating Culture Where the Red River Flows into Vietnam

A Grand Cultural Celebration in November 2025

The Red River Festival 2025 (Festival Song Hong 2025) will take place in Lao Cai Province from November 18 to 24, 2025. The event promises a week full of cultural experiences and exciting international exchanges.

The theme “Where the Red River Flows into Vietnam” highlights the historical and cultural value of this famous river. It also shows the strong bond between Vietnam and neighboring countries.

The festival is organized by the Lao Cai Provincial People’s Committee. It celebrates the success of the 1st Provincial Party Congress (2025–2030) and welcomes the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Spectacular Opening Ceremony and International Guests

The Opening Ceremony will be held at 8:00 PM on November 19 at Nam Cuong Square, Cam Duong Ward. Visitors can enjoy a special art show, official rituals, and a 15-minute fireworks display. The event will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV).

More than 500 guests are expected, including leaders of the Party and State and ambassadors from France, China, Denmark, India, Thailand, and Laos. Delegates from Yunnan Province, China will also attend.

Exciting Activities During the Festival

The Red River Festival 2025 offers a variety of events across Lao Cai City.

1. Ethnic Cultural Space (November 18–24)

At Kim Tan Square, visitors can explore 13 exhibition areas featuring traditional rituals, folk songs, crafts, and OCOP products. The space also displays artifacts and materials on Red River culture and cooperation between Vietnam and Yunnan.

2. “Old Coc Leu Market” Revival

At Coc Leu Market and An Duong Vuong Street, guests can experience a recreated old market scene. The area will feature traditional trading, folk games, and local performances.

3. Vietnam–China Sports Exchange

Friendly football matches between Lao Cai and Yunnan teams will take place at Lao Cai Stadium. These games promote friendship and regional cooperation.

4. Red River Festival Golf Tournament 2025

A special golf tournament will be organized to celebrate the event. It combines sportsmanship and cultural exchange.

5. International Bicycle Race: “One Race, Two Nations”

From November 28–30, cyclists from Vietnam and China will compete in the Hong Ha – Lao Cai race. The race highlights tourism and cross-border friendship.

6. Lao Cai Shan Tuyet Tea Festival 2025

In Van Chan Commune, visitors can join the Shan Tuyet Tea Festival with the theme “The Fragrance of Tea on the Clouds.” It celebrates one of Vietnam’s most famous highland teas.

A Bridge of Culture, Economy, and Friendship

The Red River Festival 2025 carries deep political, cultural, and diplomatic meaning. It promotes economic growth and regional cooperation between Lao Cai, other Red River Basin provinces, and Yunnan, China.
