Developing an Archaeological Excavation Project for the Newly Discovered Ancient Shipwreck off the Coast of Da Nang
Recently, coastal authorities in Hoi An Tay Ward, Da Nang City, reported the discovery of an ancient shipwreck containing a number of historical artifacts. This is considered a highly significant finding, offering important evidence to support research on Vietnam’s maritime history and ancient international trade routes.
Following the discovery, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) has requested that the Da Nang City People’s Committee promptly develop an archaeological excavation plan, mobilize local forces to secure the site, and ensure safety, security, and public order in the surrounding area.

Project Development and Expert Consultation
The MoCST has requested that the Da Nang People’s Committee:
-
Organize a consultation conference with experts, scientists, and relevant agencies.
-
Conduct initial surveys and artifact assessments.
-
Propose a preservation and excavation plan in accordance with cultural heritage and public investment regulations.
