Chau Phong Village: Preserving the Art of Cham Brocade Weaving in An Giang
A Tradition Passed Down Through Generations
In Chau Phong Commune, An Giang Province, the Cham ethnic community continues to preserve its traditional brocade weaving craft.
For generations, families have kept this art alive, weaving colorful fabrics that reflect the identity and soul of the Cham people.
One local artisan shared that her family has practiced brocade weaving since her grandfather’s time.
Although the craft has faced many ups and downs, her family’s love and dedication for weaving have never faded.
Each day, they work patiently at the loom, creating handmade products such as bags, hats, scarves, and traditional garments.
From Tradition to Tourism
Beyond preserving a cultural tradition, many Cham families have turned brocade weaving into a tourism experience.
Visitors, both local and international, come to observe the weaving process, learn about Cham culture, and purchase authentic souvenirs.
According to artisans, Cham brocade products are priced between 50,000 and 300,000 VND, depending on the size and design.
Each piece is hand-woven, combining skill, patience, and creativity.
The patterns often carry spiritual meaning, symbolizing blessings, harmony, and connection to nature.

Recognized as a National Cultural Heritage
In 2023, the Chau Phong Brocade Weaving Craft was officially recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
This honor highlights the community’s continuous effort to protect and promote traditional crafts in the Mekong Delta.
Every year, Chau Phong Village welcomes around 10,000 visitors who come to explore its workshops and experience authentic Cham culture.
The rhythmic sound of weaving looms, the vibrant colors of fabric, and the warm smiles of artisans create a unique atmosphere that captivates every guest.

Preserving Identity Through Craft
Local authorities in Chau Phong Commune are committed to preserving and developing the Cham brocade weaving village.
Plans include training young artisans, promoting cultural tourism, and supporting households that continue the craft.
For the Cham people, brocade weaving is more than a livelihood.
It is a way to honor their ancestors, express their cultural identity, and share their heritage with the world.
Each woven thread carries a story — one of resilience, pride, and timeless beauty.
