Vietnam Welcomes Its 20 Millionth International Visitor in 2025

A landmark moment for Vietnam’s tourism industry

On December 15, at Phu Quoc International Airport, Vietnam officially welcomed its 20 millionth international visitor, marking a major milestone in the 65-year journey of Vietnam’s tourism industry. The ceremony was jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, and the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee.

This historic event highlights Vietnam’s growing appeal as a global travel destination and reflects the strong recovery and long-term development of the country’s tourism sector.

The 20 millionth visitor arrives from Poland

The milestone visitor arrived on a LOT Polish Airlines flight from Poland, carrying more than 200 international travelers to Phu Quoc. The 20 millionth guest was Ms. Karolina Agnieszka Muskus, a Polish national.

Also on the same flight were:

  • Ms. Milena Katarzyna Ciesielska-Skuza, the 19,999,999th visitor
  • Mr. Karol Krzysztof Ciesielski, the 20,000,001st visitor

The three guests were warmly welcomed and presented with special gifts from tourism partners, including Sun Group and Ngoc Hien Pearl, symbolizing Vietnam’s hospitality and appreciation for international travelers.

Visa-free policies boost European travel to Vietnam

The celebration comes at a meaningful time as Vietnam continues to expand visa-free entry policies for key international markets, including Poland. These policies have made travel to Vietnam more convenient and attractive for European visitors, encouraging longer stays and richer travel experiences.

By simplifying entry procedures, Vietnam is strengthening its competitiveness, improving the overall tourism environment, and reinforcing its image as a safe, friendly, and welcoming destination.

20 million international arrivals reflect strong recovery and future ambition

Reaching 20 million international visitors is not only a symbolic achievement but also a clear indicator of Vietnam’s tourism revival. It reflects the country’s efforts to:

  • Diversify international source markets
  • Attract high-spending travelers
  • Encourage longer stays

These strategies support Vietnam’s ambition to achieve tourism revenue exceeding VND 1 quadrillion by 2025, contributing significantly to national economic growth.

Global recognition strengthens Vietnam’s tourism brand

In 2025, Vietnam received major recognition from the international travel community. The country was honored:

  • For the 6th time as World’s Leading Heritage Destination by the World Travel Awards
  • For the 7th time as Asia’s Leading Destination

In addition, many Vietnamese destinations and tourism businesses earned prestigious global awards, further enhancing Vietnam’s reputation and visibility on the world tourism map.

Phu Quoc – A world-class destination for a new era of tourism

Choosing Phu Quoc as the location for welcoming the 20 millionth visitor carries strong symbolic meaning. As one of Vietnam’s leading island destinations, Phu Quoc offers:

  • Outstanding natural landscapes
  • Modern tourism infrastructure
  • A well-developed, integrated tourism ecosystem

The island is increasingly capable of hosting national and international events and is preparing for major milestones such as APEC 2027. More importantly, Phu Quoc represents Vietnam’s vision for a greener, more sustainable, and higher-quality tourism future.

Conclusion

Welcoming the 20 millionth international visitor is more than a celebratory moment—it is a powerful statement of Vietnam’s openness, confidence, and readiness to engage with the world. With supportive policies, global recognition, and destinations like Phu Quoc leading the way, Vietnam is well positioned to continue its rise as one of Asia’s most compelling travel destinations.
