2025 National Festival of Opera and Folk Theater Opens in Hanoi

On the evening of November 17, 2025, the National Festival of Opera and Folk Theater officially opened at Kim Ma Theater – National Traditional Theater (Hanoi). The event showcases the finest examples of traditional stage arts, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the country.

Highlights from the Opening Ceremony

Deputy Minister Tạ Quang Đông emphasized that the festival is a key cultural event, reflecting both the artistic achievements and creative efforts of performing arts organizations nationwide. The festival also provides an opportunity to:

• Review the journey of creation and performance in traditional theater.

• Assess the skills and talents of artists.

• Explore how traditional arts engage with contemporary life.

• Identify efforts to innovate in staging and composition.

He stressed that preserving traditional arts does not mean freezing them in time. Instead, these art forms must adapt, develop, and share their value widely. The country’s cultural development strategy to 2030 highlights the importance of:

• Conserving traditional arts,

• Developing human resources in the arts,

• Innovating financial and support mechanisms, especially in commissioning and supporting artistic works.

Festival Program

The 2025 festival features 14 elaborately staged performances, involving nearly 1,000 artists from 10 major art units nationwide. The festival runs from November 17 to 26, 2025 at Kim Ma Theater in Hanoi.

This festival is more than just performances—it celebrates the beauty and identity of traditional theater. By presenting opera and folk theater to audiences, the event helps people appreciate their artistic richness and philosophical depth, deepening interest and admiration for these unique art forms.
